Thomas had missed all of this season recovering from a hip injury suffered last April.

Isaiah Thomas will make his Cleveland Cavaliers debut Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers, head coach Tyronn Lue said Monday. However, that rules out Thomas for Wednesday’s game against the Boston Celtics, the team that traded him away this offseason.
Thomas will be under a minutes restriction, Lue said.
It’s a surprise that Thomas won’t be suiting up against his former team in a game that had been labeled as a “revenge” opportunity, but the Cavaliers are glad to have him back. Thomas had missed all of the season up to this point while recovering from offseason hip surgery that caused him to miss part of last year’s playoffs.
Thomas finished fifth in last year’s MVP voting, averaging 28.9 points and 5.9 assists on incredible efficiency, posting a 62.5 True Shooting Percentage. This offseason, the Celtics and the Cavaliers swapped Thomas for Kyrie Irving after the younger Cleveland star requested a trade.
Boston is seen as a potential threat to the Cavaliers making a fourth straight NBA Finals run, but they have bounced back from a slow start and now have a crucial part of the team returning — even if he won’t take the floor against his former team on Wednesday.
