Wade made his return to the Heat with a standing ovation.
Dwyane Wade’s return to the Miami Heat just makes perfect sense. Wade embodies Miami, and before his surprising departure two summers ago, he had been a 13-year lifer down in South Beach. He just looks right in this uniform.
Wade had been shipped back to Miami in a flurry of deadline deals by the Cavaliers, which made sense. He had been facing declining minutes due to Cedi Osman’s emergence and new additions like George Hill and Rodney Hood, and it’s possible he would have fallen completely out of the rotation.
On Friday, Wade made his return debut to a magical standing ovation.
Wade and Heat president Pat Riley had to mend fences before Wade’s eventual return, but they did that before the season when they were brought together at a funeral and that cleared the way for Wade’s return. Well, welcome back to South Beach, Dwyane. You belong here.
